In my previous life I was among one of the very first software engineers to join Fantastic, a Swiss-American hi-tech startup that developed software products for rich data distribution. I was part of the core team that developed the worldwide first end-to-end multimedia broadcasting software platform based on TCP/IP. We used to code in C/C++ on Linux and then to port produced software to other target systems like HP-UX, Solaris, and Windows Server. I joined Fantastic as a Software Engineer and then was promoted to Lead Designer.

I have relevant experience in designing and developing reactive web applications (responsive, resilient, elastic, message driven), and I have spent the last three years creating an innovative crowdfunding platform based on Bitcoin with several fresh concepts in line with the latest Internet trends. The backend consisted of a REST API implemented in Scala, and relied on MongoDB for persistence and Redis for caching. The authentication and authorization mechanism was based on JSON Web Token (JWT pronounced jot), a relatively new technology issued by Microsoft and soon after adopted by Google. JWT is a digitally signed, compact URL-safe means of representing claims to be transferred between the frontend and the backend, and it is very suitable for stateless server architectures. Finally, the frontend complied with the HTML5 specifications and was implemented as a Single-Page Application (SPA) with AngularJS.

I tried to launch my own startup in Berlin (Germany) but me and my co-founders failed since the BaFin did not grant us permission to operate because of the Bitcoin and some other minor issues, and as a consequence we were not able to get funded. Anyway, it has been a great experience and as CEO & CTO I had the opportunity to learn a lot in terms of business and technical trends.
