One way of keeping thing simple but allowing for some degree of filtering is by limiting the pool of potential matches. For example, the app Hinge allows matches only with a user's friends, friends of friends, and friends of friends of friends while the app JSwipe appeals to Jewish singles. It is in this vein that my idea employs swiping in order to help users find “the one.” Taking cues from the early days of Facebook, my app will only be open to graduates of highly ranked universities, employees of elite companies, or people with advanced degrees. While this might seem elitist, the fact of the matter is that these people tend to be intelligent, ambitious, and hard-working, all of which are characteristics that people look for in a potential significant other.
Limiting users to highly educated and sophisticated people has the added advantage of allowing for more targeted filtering because they would be somewhat less constrained by the normally prevailing wisdom to keep apps as simple as possible. For this reason, my app will allow for filtering potential matches, including by religion, race/ethnicity, political beliefs, height, etc, making it even easier for users to find “the one.” Currently, I have a wireframe prototype for my app idea, all I need is an app developer who believes in my idea for that idea to become a reality. If that is you, let me know and together we can build something great!
