"Tara as worked as an editor for Essence, Heart & Soul, Ebony and CosmoGirlmagazines. She edited two books for girls around sexual health: What Your Mama Never Told You: True Stories About Sex & Love and Am I the Last Virgin? Ten African American Reflections on Sex & Love. Am I the Last Virgin was nominated by the American Library Association for its Quick Pick for Reluctant Readers award and named by the New York Public Library as one of the best books in 1998 for teenagers. Tara published her own magazine for young women, Fierce, a socially conscious magazine that encouraged young women to excavate for their authentic, wild and powerful selves. Fierce scored interviews with such notables as Benazir Bhutto (former Prime Minister of Pakistan) and was nominated by Utnemagazine as one of the best new independent magazines in 2003. Tara has also conducted workshops and talks for young women at numerous universities and organizations. Her appearances on various radio and television shows and mentions in print media have ranged from Good Day Atlanta to NPR to the New York Times.
